Prognostic significance of limited resection in pathologic stage I lung adenocarcinoma with spread through air spaces

چکیده
Background: Tumor spread through air spaces (STAS) is now recognized as tumor invasion. However, the association between STAS and procedure-specific outcomes (limited resection lobectomy) in patients with pathologic stage I lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) still under investigation.

Tumor Spread through Air Spaces is an Important Pattern of Invasion and Impacts the Frequency and Location of Recurrences after Limited Resection for Small Stage I Lung Adenocarcinomas.
INTRODUCTION Tumor invasion in lung adenocarcinoma is defined as infiltration of stroma, blood vessels, or pleura. Based on observation of tumor spread through air spaces (STAS), we considered whether this could represent new patterns of invasion and investigated whether it correlated with locoregional versus distant recurrence according to limited resection versus lobectomy. METHODS We revie...
متن کاملPrognostic effect of age on survival of patients with stage I adenocarcinoma of the lung.
AIMS AND BACKGROUND It is still unclear whether age is an independent prognostic factor in patients with stage I NSCLC. METHODS Five hundred and sixty-nine patients with stage I adenocarinoma who underwent surgical resection as first treatment were included. The effect on overall survival of age, gender, smoking habits, Charlson comorbidity index score (CCIS), type of surgery, tumor size and ...
متن کاملClinical significance of nm23 expression in resected pathologic-stage I, non-small cell lung cancer.
BACKGROUND Clinical significance of the status of nm23 gene, originally identified as an antimetastatic gene, in non-small cell lung cancer remains unestablished, whereas many clinical studies have demonstrated that reduced nm23 expression is correlated with tumor progression and poor prognosis in a variety of malignant tumors such as breast carcinoma. METHODS nm23 expression was examined imm...
متن کاملPrognostic significance of CD44 expression in adenocarcinoma of the lung.
Aims-To determine whether expression of CD44 in neoplasia is associated with tumour grade, stage and prognosis.Methods-The immunohistochemical expression of CD44 was evaluated using the mouse antihuman monoclonal antibody 3G12 which recognises regions shared by all CD44 isoforms to determine whether expression in formalin fixed, paraffin wax embedded tissue correlates with tumour grade, stage o...
متن کاملPrognostic significance of heat shock protein 105 in lung adenocarcinoma.
Heat shock protein 105 (HSP105) is overexpressed in various tumors and is known to protect cells from cytotoxic stimuli. The prognostic significance of HSP105 expression in cancer has not been fully evaluated. Here, HSP105 expression in lung adenocarcinoma was immunohistochemically examined in 116 patients: 68 males and 48 females with ages ranging from 38-81 (median 63) years. Tumor stage was ...
